A Thanksgiving Tradition

Giving in the Community

This Thanksgiving marked the 22nd year of a special family tradition for Ecologel’s Director of Agronomy, Jim Spindler. As a former Grand Knight for Lakeland, FL council of the Knights of Columbus, Jim started a program to provide Thanksgiving meals to local elderly and disabled shut-ins.

Volunteers Amongst Us

Each year, Jim coordinates donations and a network of volunteers to cook over a hundred meals before heading home to enjoy his own Thanksgiving dinner. This year, Jim and over 20 volunteers cooked 16 turkeys and 210 pounds of potatoes, plus green beans, stuffing and cranberry sauce to provide 150 meals. Fifty pies were also donated to the cause. Meals were distributed to elderly shut-ins, a group home for individuals with disabilities and a local homeless shelter.
